Week Commencing 7th October

Get it Booked

Monday 7th October- CAMP The Workshops- Norwich Arts Centre

So I would not normally include a workshop as my top billing for the week. However this is James McDermott this is a local playwright. Not only is he a local playwright he is a local queer playwright which when it comes to Norfolk is a bit like spotting a unicorn. This is a guy who took his obsession with Morrissey and turned it into an amazing one man show called Rubbering if you haven’t seen it, it’s back later this month at St Georges Theatre Great YarmouthI would absolutely recommend it and if you go back to blog number 1 it was the show that inspired this blog.

However James is currently getting ready to launch his new cabaret CAMP! a musical about the media’s silence on state-sanctioned anti gay purges in Chechnya which will be performed later this month at Stage Two, St Georges Theatre and the Seagull Theatre later this month. (Promise to feature in next weeks blog). James promises writers tools to help create memorable characters and write dialogue whilst representing minorities.

Only one region can say they have James McDermott and it’s ours!!!! So get out and help make this mans art reflect his vision because we are so lucky to have someone like James creating art, fighting for minorities and making life just that little bit more fabulous all the time.

One to Watch

Saturday 12thOct- King Prawn- Waterfront Studio Norwich

So the nights are getting colder and darker it’s rained pretty much daily for three weeks in a row and Starbuck have pumpkin spiced latte. So from the point of view of entertainment its time for only one thing… Ska Punk. When the nights are colder nothing better than the heat of a mosh pit and this Saturday we are fortunate to have King Prawn fresh from releasing their 5th studio album performing here in Norwich.

The album entitles The Fabulous New Sounds of…. is well an amazing listen and well worth a download on iTunes but if your non-committal you can always stream it. There are not many bands that formed in 1993 that are still releasing relevant music in 2019 and even less that are here still performing live for us in Norfolk. So get it booked

Worth a Mention

Friday 11th Oct- La Voix:Live, Loud and Fabulous- Norwich Playhouse

To me any drag show is always worth a mention but lets face it La Voix is practically royalty. Queen of stage, film and Instagram, this show has live singing celebrating all of our favourite divas from Cher to Tina Turner. In these days of RuPauls Drag Race its important to remember that all the Queens we fall in love with were born playing the clubs…and some of them can do more than Roar and La Voix is here in Norwich to prove it for you.
