Week Commencing 21st October

Get it Booked

Sun 27th Oct- Rubber Ring- St Georges Theatre, Great Yarmouth

I may have to change the title of this blog to the James McDermott appreciation society, but I think this week will complete the trilogy. Having said that I make no apologies for wanting to celebrate the wonderful local lgbtq talent that is James and his work. I checked out Camp last week and it was an amazing show with a brilliant cast with an important message. Rubber ring if your a regular reader you will know I saw this before at the Seagull Theatre in Lowestoft.

The story is a simple one a teenage Morrissey fan is desperate to get out of the village of Sheringham and make his way to London to see his idle live. On the way he discovers himself and some important values. With a one man cast that is Mr McDermott himself it’s an incredibly entertaining piece which will have you laughing in the ailies.

I promise next week will not mention James McDermott but remember we are so lucky to have people like James creating the work they do and bringing to his home region. For those interested James is doing a writing workshop before the performance of Rubber Ring. So please get out and celebrate some local talent.

One to Get Involved With

Mon 21st– Fri 25th Oct- Poetry Workshops- Norwich Arts Centre

So this week we will carry on with the theme of supporting local talent. So this week for all 14-19 year olds Norwich Arts Centre are hosting Poetry and Spoken word workshops. This a great way to spend a half term learning a new way of expressing yourself, or exploring a new art form all together.

The workshops are free and hosted by Lewis Buxton whose poetry explores the subject of father and sons, gender roles and modern body image. You can find videos of Lewis’s work on Facebook and Youtube but this  a great opportunity for the youths in our families to spend some time being inspired by the director of TOAST poetry. So if you think you have the next poet laureate hiding in your family get them involved this week.

Worth a Mention

Sat 26th Oct- Lost Angels- Waterfront, Norwich

A night of rock awaits this Saturday at the Waterfront.  This “super group” formed of former members of Alice Cooper Band and the Gilby Clarke Band as well as many others. The last time they toured was in 2013 and after 6 long years they are back on the road to bring an experience with the guys who helped create some of the best known songs. Can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday night.
